Hey lovelies

I hope you’re all well and enjoying the sunshine. Ah its glorious isn’t it? Everything seems so much better when the sun is shining! Well, at a time of the year when its mid busy wedding season for some of our exhibitors brides, there couldn’t be anything nicer for lil ole me than being invited along to a floral crown workshop for a little DIY creative indulgence!

I’ve always looked at floral crowns and wondered how on earth they work - whether its a long hard process, whether its possible to use an array of different flowers and just whether I could ever get away with wearing one down the high street! Theres nothing quite like real blooms and having them waft around your head not only looks great but smells amazing too!

So I recently happily accepted my lovely invitation along to Miss Victoria’s Floral Emporium, now with a lovely new home - a gorgeous little space in a lovely courtyard area Blackwater Court, East Dulwich. Lisa tells me:

“it’s such a peaceful and tranquil place to work but is constantly buzzing with creativity. I work next door to a photographer, furniture maker, textile designer and dancers - all wonderful people too!”

- And I think it really shows - its the kind of space you want to hang around (without wanting to look like a stalker) and stay a while as its just all so lovely!

“I have been a florist for about 6 years now, when I graduated I went straight in to designing supermarket flowers but that felt like working for the devil so I quickly got in to retail floristry (stopping off at online floristry on the way) and found that working with couples to create their wedding flowers was my favourite part of my job. When working in shops before, clients have always been so interested in how I create bouquets and arrangements, this coupled with my background in teaching gave me the idea for the workshops”

I asked Lisa what inspired her to offer this workshop idea out to the public -

Floral crowns are hugely popular at the moment thanks to the growing trend in boho / vintage style weddings. They are not the most comfortable thing to wear all day - but they certainly compliment the floaty feminine look that so many brides are keen to create, so Im glad to be of service!”

..And really I think a lot of the trends in the wedding industry seem to pass but they do leave certain elements behind that become classic and always related to weddings regardless of the style or theme. Floral crowns are certainly right up there as a timeless classic with paper or fabric floral crowns being worn and created in Victorian times. So you see - its really not just a new thing - and its a handy skill to have as really the only thing I’ve ever been able to do with flowers is pop them in a vase or make a daisy chain - now I can imagine having a daughter and being able to create something sweet for her to wear whilst running around the garden, or being able to contribute something to a friend’s happy event.

So if you’re keen to learn a little DIY for your wedding, are looking for an alternative hen party idea, want something to do with friends or relatives or just for fun! this may be for you! Honestly ladies, its a really lovely way to spend a little time with a group of friends, learning, relaxing, creating and enjoying something just really blooming lovely! - And as if that isn’t enough to grab your interest - Lisa serves great tea and cake too!

Visit Lisa’s site for a little more information on the workshops or get in touch with her to chat about your wedding flowers - she’s such a warm person and completely talented in her field. I cant recommend anyone more to teach you something lovely, or to trust in for your big day.

Oh and I did wear it walking down the street, smelt great and felt great doing so!
