Wedding Supplier Spotlight: The Wedding Alchemist

Wedding Styling is fast becoming the must-have service for all couples getting married.  In the first instance it is common to question why do I need a stylist? But trust me when I say this it makes your wedding day not only pop for your guests, but it really does help keep stress levels lowered. I say this from personal experience it was by far the best investment we made when we got married as it helped us achieve the vision we had in our minds without having to stress about setting it all up on the big day!

Today we are highlighting the fun and funky work of Caroline Walsh, Director of The Wedding Alchemist who took time out to chat to us all about how her process works and how she aims to stand out from the crowd.

What do you do and why do you do it? What makes it so special to you?

I offer styling, guidance and hire elements for anyone looking for something that is just a little bit different. I love what I do and as a trained interior designer I love seeing spaces transform and with a keen eye for detail I love making sure everything is just right.

What is your unique selling point?

At times I tend to specialise in more unusual weddings and love working with a variety of styles. I offer a personal service and can help guide you through the set up on the big day and I have a wide range of skills to allow me to bring all your ideas to life and create something bespoke for you. This includes anything from table runners, fabric flowers, table plans, favours and anything else you can think of, this can be made to suit your specific requirements.

Previous clients find it so helpful that I am always available to offer ideas but also listen to what they want and help to make that happen. I can think of things to consider that they have not thought of and can also correspond with the venue and other suppliers to take the stress out of the planning.

What question do you get asked the most in relation to your service?

That’s an easy question to answer, simply put it’s “Why do I need styling and set up?” A lot of people think that they can do everything themselves. Whilst this is possible so many people end up biting off so much more than they can chew. I did this myself so I understand what a mistake it was. There was so much stress, so many of my ideas never came to fruition as I did not have time and the morning of my wedding was spent up a ladder rather than enjoying a glass of fizz and relaxing with my Bridal party.

Some people think that ‘getting someone in’ to organise everything for them means that their wedding will be less personal, which is certainly not true, and I can even work with you to decide what is worth doing yourself if that is really something that is important to you.

Tell us a little about the process you go through with your couples.

I always keep the correspondence casual, this usually starts with a quick email and phone call, followed by a Pinterest board and then a presentation board to make sure we are both on the same page. Then, depending on the client and the services provided there is constant updates and contact with a spreadsheet clients can view the progress and know everything is under control.

What do you think is the hardest part of planning a wedding?

There is so much inspiration out there that deciding on exactly what look you want to go for can be daunting. Pinterest ins great and I use it to help identify what my clients love but there is also so much to see it can be overwhelming. I think it is important to have a consistent look to your day, but to also make sure the day is all about you and includes what you and your partner love.

The only other thing that can be hard is overcoming family pressures and assumptions about what a wedding ‘should’ look like if you are wanting to plan something a little bit different. The important thing is to stick to your guns, it is your wedding and I have never had an instance where everyone has not been impressed with the final outcome on the day regardless of the quirky inclusions.

Finally, if you could give couples planning their wedding one piece of advice – what would it be?

Decide if you want to do any DIY but pick perhaps one thing and do it well, you will never have as much time as you think! Also make sure to consider hire as it is very often so much cheaper and easier than buying everything yourself. I struggled to find what I wanted myself as my requirements were a little different but over the years I have tailored my hire stock to anything slightly unusual. From a working vintage gramophone to pink flamingos! I have hire items for any wedding style from Mad Hatter’s tea party to Industrial chic, so there is something for everyone!
