People often ask us why we do what we do and the answer is really simple:

We love being able to bring together such artistic, creative suppliers with couples who want something a little bit different but a lot stylish at their special day.

Hearing stories of how suppliers connected with our wonderful couples is always so heartwarming and it is even better when we spot real weddings that we were able to bring together.

For today’s blog we have the lovely Lauren and Bill who came to our Fair for inspiration and the who’s whos list of suppliers is dominated by our amazing Chosen Family.  The results are simply amazing.

Lauren and Bill got married at Bristol Zoo, which in itself is one of the coolest things ever – who doesn’t love a tropical influence or two?!

We chatted to Lauren and Bill about their big day to find out what went down…

We wanted a day that ultimately felt like ‘us’: we wanted fun, colour and a relaxed environment, whilst still keeping it classy of course! We wanted our guests to come away from our wedding feeling like they’d really enjoyed the whole day and that it reflected who we are as a couple.

As soon as Lauren spoke to our florist, Jordan from Jasper + Quinn, we knew the theme had to be zoo animals (since we got married in the Clifton Pavilion at Bristol Zoo Gardens), a touch of hockey – which we both play, and was how we met – and lots of tropical flowers too. This is where the vision all began to come together, especially with the help of Brittany who runs Pigment + Paper as she seamlessly combined all of these elements into our wedding stationary.

The entire day couldn’t have gone any better if we’d tried, but spending that quality time with my bridesmaids and my mum in the morning was incredible. One bridesmaid’s mum, who I’ve known since the age of 4, came and helped me into my dress, which was such a special moment for me. Having said that, the actual part where we got to get married was the most special moment – we couldn’t stop smiling and the officiant had to tell us to take it seriously as we were grinning a bit too much!

Another really special moment was when Lauren’s hockey team did a hockey stick guard of honour just before everyone else threw the confetti – it was amazing and we were so touched that they’d gone to the trouble of arranging it and decorated the sti cks in our teams’ colours! It’s one of the best photos of the day!

Bill’s highlights were most definitely having a special keg of beer – Bath Ales Prophecy – arranged by one of the bridesmaids (who works for the brewery) as she renamed it ‘Bill You Marry Me?’. Safe to say Bill and the dads were straight on that!

Another highlight for Bill was the band. We found Lo-Fi on a website called Warble and they did not disappoint. They played all the crowd-pleasers plus music that we both love, though ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ seemed to be the biggest hit of the night! Our photographer, Chris Greenwood, was right in the middle of the dance floor and he captured some incredible shots!

Spending that time with your favourite people the night before the wedding and the morning of is invaluable. The evening before, Lauren’s family and close friends descended upon Bristol and the Alma Tavern was alive wi’t sound of Yorkshire folk. My auntie started off the singing and it went on for quite a while! My brother did a little speech too, which was so special.

Although we got married at the zoo, we didn’t actually go around it but all of our guests did at some point and they loved it. I’d also say that having a band lifted the evening so much – everyone was dancing right up until the end! Also, the photobooth was so fun and really brought out everyone’s playful sides (we used Happy Donut, they were fab!) and the gin bar was an instant hit.

Our personal top tips that we found invaluable were:

  • Get a videographer!
  • If it’s a DJ vs band argument, go for the band – though do your research.
  • If a photobooth and gin bar are a possibility, you can never go wrong!
  • Go for the personal touches if you can, that’s what people remember.
  • Enjoy it, take some time for yourselves and HAVE FUN – your wedding should reflect who you both are and what you love and value; go with your gut feeling for things and remember it’s your day, so do what’s right for the both of you.
